Richard Nonas: An Exhibition at FONDATION CAB in Brussels
FONDATION CAB in Brussels Presents an Exhibition Dedicated to Richard Nonas (1936-2021).
The Fondation CAB in Brussels is honored to present an exhibition dedicated to Richard Nonas, the American artist renowned for his minimalist sculptures crafted from wood, metal, and stone. His works transform our perception of spaces, creating sensations of stability and imbalance.
A Unique Journey
Nonas, a former ethnologist who lived with Indigenous people in the Sonoran Desert of Mexico, developed a critique of traditional architecture with the Anarchitecture group in the 1970s. His artistic work remains deeply influenced by his background in ethnology.
Featured Works
Key pieces in the exhibition include wooden sculptures extending across the walls of the Fondation, creating a tension between emptiness and volume. Stone blocks arranged on the floor invite visitors to redefine their movement through the space. Additionally, more intimate works on paper complete this immersive experience into Nonas' universe.
Reflection on Art and Architecture
Nonas explores the boundaries between art and architecture, natural and artificial. His seemingly simple works offer a profound reflection on our relationship with objects and spaces.
